Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Control systems have advanced from machinery equipments to electric controllers and computer-controlled system. The safety, being related to a control system, indispensably requires the Fail-Safety. This paper goes back to its principle and thought together with technical achievements in Japan. Then it outlines how engineers have secured the Fail-Safety to systems and how the Fail-Safety has changed according to each phase of the technological progress. Additionally, how the Fail-Safe technology should be recognized and generalized under the globalization and information-technology is instantiated from the viewpoint of safety certification.
