Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A modified algorithm for pictorial pattern matching by circular Zernike moments is presented, which have rotation-invariance as well as the original Zernike moments defined on the unit circle. They are rotation-invariant similarly as the original ones but they are not orthogonal to each other themselves. A Zernike moment consists of some circular Zernike moments defined on each separated circular region of the common center. We can construct a fast algorithm for rotated picture matching by utilizing a few circular Zernike moments as a feature vector and an evaluation of dissimilarity between feature vectors. Fundamental characteristics and stability of circular Zernike moments are experimentally investigated. From experiments with synthesized and real pictures of characters, it has been shown that savings of more than 70time was achieved by use of the proposed circular Zernike moments.
