Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The long-term goal of our research is the creation of a technique for recognizing human motion in the CAVE^ system and the applications that uses this technique. This paper describes a new way of measuring 3-dimensional positions in real-time for the purpose of human motion recognition in the CATV^ system. Three position measurement techniques are evaluated: a magnetic method, a supersonic method and an optical method. The results show that the optical method is the most reliable. Three problems with the optical method, marker recognition in the dark, occlusion and mistaken marker identification as a result of two markers overlapping in the camera's field of view, are addressed. The solutions to these problems use properties of human body and verify the effectiveness of this method.
