Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the field of sign-language engineering, the extraction of motion primitives is an important problem for the sign-language recognition and synthesis. This paper describes a method to extract the basic motion primitives of sign-language words from multi-view video images. The method first tracks the hand region and motion based on the color-image processing, then extracts the 3-D motion trajectory of the hands. The motion primitives that are defined as the simple geometric curves such as straight line, circle, and combination straight-line in this paper, are extracted from the 3-D motion trajectory. The method was tested with several sign-language words performed by hearing-impaired.
