Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Two experiments were run to investigate how sensitive people might be to subtle visual differences in faces. In Experiment 1 subjects were asked to judge the similarity between an averaged face and its component faces that were morphed with the averaged face in different proportions of texture and shape. The subjects were found to be sensitive to the difference in shape only if that in texture was relatively less conspicuous. In Experiment 2 subjects were presented with neutral faces pictured from different viewing angles and were asked to judge the faces on two different dimensions of impressions. The viewing angle of a face affected the subjects' impression of the face on the happy-sad dimension but not on the gentle-fierce dimension.
