Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The authors have been studying computer understanding of natural language, and already developed experimentally two types of natural language understanding systems, so called, IMAGES-I and II. At present, we are engaged in constructing an integrated multimedia understanding system IMAGES-M for natural language, still pictures and animations, and have begun to study conjunctive words in order to enforce its discourse processing functions. Recently, according to this purpose, the authors performed some experiment on discourse synthesis process in human mind and attempted semantic analysis and synthesis of Japanese conjunctions. This paper describes the experiment and the remarkable findings on the conjunctions.
