Abstract(in English) | Since 1990, the research of visual cognition has developed in two new directions. First, mechanisms of visual cognition in the human brain have been examined because we can observe the activation of the neural system directly using various types of neuro-imaging apparatus (e.g., functional MRI or PET). Second, many researches on the dorsal visual system rather than the ventral one have been done, where visual information is processed for action. Furthermore, new research on the mechanisms of human communication has been done recently as a result of the convergence of these two directions. In this paper, we discuss how the basic function of human communication is realized in the brain on the basis of recent findings from human brain imaging. |
