Improvement of Early Packet Discard Based on Queue Length

Abstract(in English) In an UBR service of ATM networks, cell discard based on packets provides better performance than the one based on cells for a network congestion. One famous method of such cell discard schemes is EPD(Early Packet Discard). However transmission efficience in EPD may be decreased, when so many links are connected to ATM switch and the most of them sends a packet to the switch. To solve this problem, we propose the improved method for the EPD based on the queue length in ATM switch. From simulation experiments, we show our proposal method has higher TCP Goodput and lower packet retransmission rate than the original one.
