Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The improvement in transmission performance was investigated as a result of the ASE noise suppression by nonlinear absorption effect in forward biased semiconductor waveguide. The 2.5 dB receiver sensitivity improvement was confirmed at 10 Gb/s RZ data signals. It was also confirmed that the extinction ratio, the optical signal to noise ratio, and the Q value of optical pulse at the receiver were improved by employing the nonlinear absorption device in the way of transmission emulator consisting of optical attenuators and EDFAs.
