Abstract(in English) Fine particle Y_2O_2S:Eu and SnO_2:Eu red phosphors in submicron sizes (∼1μm) with spherical shapes has been synthesized from yttrium alkoxide - europium chloride and stannic chloride - europium chloride mixtures, respectively, by tuning the synthesis conditions. X-ray diffraction data indicate that the powder consists of single phase with high crystallinity. The fine grained phosphor shows improved luminance at low voltage excitations (< 2 kV). Factors such as nature of solvent, firing temperature and duration are discussed with respect to the particle size, morphology, crystallinity and luminance of phosphors.
