Blue-Emitting ZnS:Cu Powder EL Device : Preparation and Characterization of Phosphor

Abstract(in English) ZnS doped with Cu_xS were prepared by passing H_2S gas through a solution containing zinc and copper ions when using (NH_2)_2 CS as a masking material for copper ions. The mixture of ZnS:Cu and NH_4Cl was thermally treated at 700 ℃ in argon gas to prepare ZnS:Cu, Cl phosphor, then the phosphor was rapidly cooled after finishing the thermal treatment. The luminance-voltage characteristic of ZnS:Cu, Cl powder electroluminescent (EL) devices fabricated in this work has been stabilized as 10 hours elapsed under the condition of 5 kHz sinusoidal wave voltage driving. The device exhibits above 300 cd/m^2 in luminance at 1 kHz. The emission color is insensitive of driving frequency. The CIE color coordinates are around X=0.149 and Y=0.142 in a frequency range from 60 Hz to 3 kHz.
