Abstract(in English) It is becoming a serious problem for dental schools that extracted tooth cannot easily be collected for student's tooth-cutting practice, due to the proliferation of oral hygiene. To solve this problem, we have been developing a tooth-cutting simulator, named "Decs/1", which can function in a personal computer. Our previous system could perform a real-time tooth cutting by employing a surface model of teeth as well as its solid model. This system, however, had a defect that cutting cannot be done from an arbitrary direction, due to a surface-data structure, To overcome this, we substituted a solid model for previous composite shape-model, without loss of capability of real-time data processing. Then, we could expand our cutting subsystem into one capable of performing an arbitrary cutting. In addition, a cross-section display window were added in a visualization subsystem. Through experiments, the updated system was validated to be able to prepare a typical box-form cavity in a mandibular molar on a real-time basis, with a high operationality.
