Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes the design and development of a programming environment that utilizes virtual reality technologies. The environment aims to facilitate understanding of abstract concepts in the object-oriented programming, and recognizing the status and process of programs, A program is represented as structures of virtual objects visually, audibly and haptically. Direct manipulation and gestures by body motions can be used to edit, execute, control and debug a program in the virtual space. The software system of the environment is implemented with the Java programming language and the Java3D library in order to enhance its portability. The system will thus work on a wide range of hardware platforms from a desktop system such as a personal computer to an immersive virtual reality system such as CAVE.
