An architecture for realizing a distributed voice conference system over IP networks

Abstract(in English) In recent years, with the prompt penetration of the IP networks such as inter/intranets, a variety of VoIP (Voice over IP) devices have been developed and studies on the relevant VoIP services are now underway. The telecommunication users, especially, enterprise users are expected to play a key role to promote prevalence of high value-added telecommunication services supported with advanced user interface provided by computers and integration of telephony and IP network services. In this paper, as a value-added service, we consider a voice conference service which supports interconnection between a number of telephony terminals in the telephone and IP-based networks, and discuss an architecture of the voice conference system taking flexibility, scalability and requirements on service quality into account. The result of our performance evaluation based on experiment using a prototype system which realizes the proposed architecture is also presented in this paper.
