Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Car-navigation systems have recently come into wide use, and it becomes important issue to construct more detailed road-networks. In general, the existing road-networks have several kinds of useful information for car-navigation. Therefore it is desirable to assign the information to new detailed road-networks which are extracted from a large-scale map image. This paper describes a novel scheme which finds the correspondence of the existing road-networks to the map image. First, positions of all nodes of the existing road-networks are modified gradually and repeatedly on the map image so that they can fit well the centerlines of road-areas. Then we find the correspondence between the road-networks and the centerlines. Moreover we investigate a method to obtain the appropriate correspondence even if one-to-one correspondence is not founded between the two.
