Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to develop a video retrieval technique, this paper discusses a searching algorithm based on motion vectors (MV) in MPEG bitstreams. We first give an MV estimation technique for MPEG which estimates precise and coherent MV fields while keeping the coding efficiency as high as possible. We then propose a retrieval algorithm based on motion histgrams. By varying block sizes from which the motion histgrams are extracted, a hierarchical retrieval scheme can be realized. Finally, we show a GUI system which converts users' aiming into retrieval keys, and some simple experimental results using the GUI will be given.
