Abstract(in English) | This paper describes Ka-band aeronautical satellite communications experiments using the Japanese engineering test satellite, COMETS. An active phased array antenna was installed in an aeronautical mobile station. We used an antenna-tracking and a doppler-shift compensation system with open-loop control. The experiments were performed on July 1999. In the fading observation experiment, we observed the carrier wave reflection by the surface of the wing of the airplane. In the COMETS antenna-pattern measurement the aeronautical mobile station flew across the satellite beam-coverage and the received power was measured. The aeronautical mobile station succeeded receiving the data transmitted from the fixed station located in Kashima, Ibaraki prefecture, through the satellite through-repeater. 24 kbps BPSK modems were used. |
