Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The tree-structured wavelet transform has received a lot of attention in the past decade and has found successful applications in signal denoising, image coding, image analysis, etc. Recently, Chang et al. proposed a texture classification algorithm based on a top-down pruned tree-structured wavelet transform. Though, high classification rates were reported, the algorithm's performance is highly dependent on a set of parameters which have to be determined in an ad-hoc way. In this paper, we present a texture classification algorithm which is based on a bottom-up pruned tree-structured wavelet transform. The algorithm does not suffer from ad-hoc parameters and shows superior performance, as evidenced by experimental results. We also present an analysis of the structural stability of the tree-structured wavelet transform, an issue which has not been addressed properly in previous research, and propose a distance metric which incorporates explicitly the structure as well as the space-frequency spectrum of textures.
