Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Coupling between a relativistic electron beam and an electromagnetic wave in a Cherenkov laser is found to be enhanced by the injection of a dense background plasma. At millimeter wavelengths where a plasma column with density of about 10^<12>~10^<15>cm^<-3> is required, we need to take into account the effect of electron-ion collisions in the background plasma. With the use of numerical analysis, dispersion and coupling characteristics of a two-dimensional (2-D) plasma-filled Cherenkov laser at 100 GHz bands are investigated. The results indicate that, when parameters are appropriately selected, a Cherenkov laser with background plasma can easily operate at higher frequencies with a greatly enhanced growth rate.
