High efficiency coupling via supermode between stacked waveguides by a par of integrated gratings

Abstract(in English) Optical coupling between stacked thin film waveguides was discussed and demonstrated. A pair of gratings was integrated, and a guided mode in one waveguide was coupled once to a supermode and coupled again to a guided mode in another waveguide. A device was designed and fabricated. High power transfer efficiency >99.9% was expected theoretically, and the experimentally obtained value was 40%. Wavelength selectivity of 1nm FWHM was also demonstrated experimentally.
