| Abstract(in English) | National Institute of Informatics(NII), which will start on April 1, 2000, by reconstruction and extension of National Center for Science Information Systems(NACSIS), has been established based on a proposal of the Science Council of the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture entitled "Policy for promoting Informatics Research"(January 1998). The target area of research on NII is "Informatics", i.e., dealing with wider topics on information, from technology to humanity. This report discusses the background, a short history of the establishment, research organization, role, and issues, from the point of views of an IT scientist, who has been working a faculty of NACSIS for about two years. |
