Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper reports a theoretical study on evaluation method of birefringence distribution along an optical fiber using polarization-OTDR. This method is based on the property that the Rayleigh scattering originated from high birefringent section is depolarized and its degree of polarization(DOP)is reduced. The author derives the relation between the birefringence and DOP, and clarifies that the reduction of DOP depends on the birefringence and the pulse width of incident light. And the theoretical prediction has been backed by simulations of polarization-OTDR signals
