Novel Optical Fiber Cable for Distribution Use in Access Network

Abstract(in English) Optical access networks must be constructed economically and immediately to enable us to realize FTTH. We reported on SZ slotted rod cable for aerial application. This cable is suitable for easy branching with the mid-span access technique. We currently use slotted rod cable with fiber ribbons for the distribution area. This cable is advantageous in terms of its diameter and weight when the fiber count is high, but its cost effectiveness is inferior when the fiber count is low. The new cable without slotted rod is developed to overcome this demerit of slotted rod cable. In this paper, we describe the requirements, structure and performances of a new type optical fiber cable.
