Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Several kinds of component have been investigated for use in wavelength multiplexers and demultiplexers. The arrayed waveguide grating(AWG)is one of the most promising components because it can operate in a high wavelength resolution. AWG devices are fabricated on the lithium niobate crystal for the multiplexer and demultiplexer for the optical wavelength division multiplex communication systems. In this letter, successful results of the design and of the experiment of the AWG mux / demux are reported. Its transmission characteristics, the cross-talk between the adjacent channels are experimentally measured. Possible designs for polarization-independent filters are discussed.
