A Range Finder for Human Face Measurement

Abstract(in English) As the applications of 3D shape models grow, a high speed and highly accurate range finder is in demand. The sinusoidal grating projection with phase shift method is hopeful because it requires only 3 images at least to measure 3D shape and texture at each pixel. But the problems were absolute range measurement unavailability and phase unwrapping stability. Here we show that the geometrical criteria between multiple cameras and projectors can clearly solve these problems. Using this method, we manufactured a range finder which can measure both left and right sides of human face. Its measurement time is only 2.5seconds, and the standard deviation of measurement error is as small as 0.16mm.
