Abstract(in English) Recently, it seems that video-telephony services and telephony in network-connected vehicles will spread very rapidly. From the viewpoint of enhancing naturalness and intelligibility of speech communications, wideband speech is extremely important. For providing high quality services, it is indispensable to develop quality design and management methodologies for wideband telephony as well as for conventional telephone services. To do this, we need to develop quality assessment methodologies which appropriately reflect users' opinion about QoS. This paper reports our recent study on characterizing quality aspects of wideband speech codecs from the viewpoint of listening quality, which is one of the quality factors in comprehensive quality assessment. The results shown in this paper is very important for extending the R-value to wideband speech communications scenarios, which will be a quality index for wideband IP telephony services.
