Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Video coding standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC has much more coding modes than other conventional standards. H.264 can reduce an average bit rate about 50% compared to MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 by using the most efficient mode in each block. Rate-Distortion Optimization method is one of the way to decide the best coding mode. H.264 reference software JM can also use this method, but computational complexity increases significantly. In Rate-Distortion Optimization method, it needs to estimate generated bits and quantization noise in each block, and then calculate cost function. There are some reports of fast method to calculate amount of bits, but few reports about fast estimation method of quantization noise. In this paper, we propose a method that can be estimated quantization noise fast.
