A Study on Improved Coding Method of RUN in VLC of DCT for Video Coding

Abstract(in English) In H.263 video coding method, 2 dimensional DCT coefficients are zigzag scanned, and entropy coded with 3DVLC using RUN and LEVEL information. The zigzag scanning has the problem that the correlation between two coefficients dependent on the positions in 2 dimensional matrix originally. This paper proposes the coding method of DCT coefficients, which is adaptively changed depending on the positions of coefficients in 2 dimensional matrix, and demonstrates its efficiency by computer simulation results.
