Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, IP telephony (VoIP) services operated by Internet Protocol are much expected to be introduced into commercial telecommunication networks. From view points of customer's protection and provider's competition, communications quality taking account of customer's opinion (that is perceptual QoS: Quality of Service) is requested for assessment, design and management of networks and terminals in IP telephony. End-to-end communications quality has been studied and standardized in SG12 under ITU (International Telecommunication Union). This paper describes current status of standardization in the ITU for subjective and objective quality assessment. End-to-end communications quality is rated by loudness rating (LR) in relation to opinion rating method (MOS). Other impairment factors in networks and terminals are individually defined based on opinion ratings. Then, this paper describes quality assessment for speech coding and packet loss for the individual impairment factors. Finally, this paper describes E-model as network planning tool for multi-quality factors compounded in IP telephony.
