Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed the Air Jet Interface, which is a haptic virtual reality interface that eliminates all the wires or arms normally needed to provide force feedback. This interface uses air jets to express the feel of touching 3D virtual objects. The airflow impacts the paddle held by the user, and this impact makes the user feel the resistance from the virtual object. In this paper, we focus on overcoming the major limitation of the Air Jet Interface : the inability of vertical air jets to create a horizontal force. We have proposed a novel way to produce horizontal force; the upward airflow impacts inclined fins attached to the paddle. We confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method in experiments. This paper describes recent progress in this project.
