Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a 3-D virtual environment, a user can manipulate and transform objects easier than through a 2-D display. In the virtual environment, the virtual object manipulation and the user navigation are both important operations. Especially it is necessary to deal with long range operations as well as short range ones. Additionally, to deal with various users, an intuitive operation method is necessary. To fulfill these requirements, several techniques for remote object manipulation were proposed that are based on making the window frame in a virtual environment and projecting a different scene into the frame. In this report, we propose a new framework that the window operation can be applied to various situations in virtual environments. Concretely, we thoroughly examine features and the usability of the pairwise relationship of the coordinate systems of the user, the window frame, the primary view outside the frame, and the secondary view inside the frame.
