Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A lot of Non-Photo-realistic Rendering (NPR) methods have been recently proposed. In this paper, we propose a simple cellular automaton model for simulating the behavior of watercolor on paper. Using this model, we can represent the characteristic phenomena of watercolors : feathery blur, blending, glazing, and difference in fixing of the pigments by the texture of paper. Then, we propose a transformation method for watercolor painting by applying the cellular automaton model to images based on region segmentation. This method realizes more natural appearance of watercolors, compared with the previous method that colors each image region uniformly with a representative color.
