Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Acoustic features (fundamental frequency and tempo) of two songs (Yurikago no uta and Zousan) were analyzed in infant-directed singing and infant-absent singing by mothers of 4-13-month-old infants. For both of two songs, tempo became slower in infant-directed singing than in infant-absent singing. Tempo had a large effect on mothers' evaluations of songs of various tempi and frequencies. Mothers who expected that infants would prefer slow tempo sang the song Zousan in slower tempo than the other mothers did. In contrast, mean fundamental frequency of infant-directed singing was not generally different from that of infant-absent singing. This is inconsistent with the notion in previous studies indicating that infant-directed singing commonly has higher fundamental frequency than infant-absent singing. These results suggest that tempo is a stable factor of infant-directed singing among mothers and songs, whereas fundamental frequency is variable.
