Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes as on-line ssccessively overlapped handwritten character recognition method and isterface. In Japan, it is common handwritten interface where people write one character on one frame out of two input frames or over. Now we propose new interface where people input successively handwritten characters that overlap in same area. So the interface suits for small-sized appliances like PDAs. Then we explain new character recognition method for the interface. The method applies simplified discrete HMMs to the sequence of input strokes of handwritten characters. It does the recognition process whenever one stroke is written. The method can be implemented is low processing powered appliances. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through experiments on the 46 Hiragana categories.
