Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical communication networks, such as FTTH(Fiber-To-The-Home), are spreading to the end-user, like each home, due to the trend of higher communication density. On the other hand, the serious cost reduction and higher productivity for large-scale production are expected for optical communication devices, because FTTH is the business domain for the consumer. In order to achieve those expectations, we are making efforts to develop the replicated polymer optical waveguide, "SPICA(Stacked Polymer optical IC/Advanced)". Our unique replication technology realizes both low cost and large-scale production. And we already realized the single mode optical waveguide by adopting this novel technology. With this technology, optical coupler modules and a WDM module are successfully demonstrated with practical characteristics and high reliability for FTTH systems. In this paper, the fabrication method, the basic characteristics, and the reliability results of those modules are discussed.
