Abstract(in English) We have studied a compact, low-cost, low-power-consumption optical I/O module (PETIT : P__-hotonic/E__-lectronic T__-ied I__-nT__-erface) for an optical interconnection between/inside computers, servers, storages, etc[1-3]. In this paper, aiming an optical interconnection between machines which need to be reduced the number/cross-section of data cables, or on boards where the density of integration can be the final bottleneck of system performance, the simulation of a PETIT at 20Gbps/ch and the calculation of the specification for devices have been carried out, and the possibility that a PETIT can be operated at 20Gbps/ch is investigated. As a result, the hopeful specification has been deduced, and it has been revealed that a 20-Gbps optical interconnection is available not only on boards (0~1m) but also between machines (~100m), while the module structure, size, cost, and operating condition for the 20-Gbps PETIT remain the same as those for the 10-Gbps PETIT. Additionally, we also report the expected performance of the 20-Gbps PETIT.
