Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A novel Y-branch waveguide polarization beam splitter with a periodic dielectric multilayer has been proposed and investigated. In the Y-branch waveguide polarization splitter, the periodic dielectric multilayer with birefringence is loaded on one of the branches as an outer cladding layer. We have successfully designed the polarization splitter with the insertion loss of <0.3 dB and crosstalk of>15 dB. We also show the polarization splitter with the insertion loss of<0.25 dB and crosstalk of>20 dB can be realized by utilizing the interference between a propagation mode and radiation modes.
