Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Hybrid integration of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and silica-based planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) is a promising way of achieving compact and multi-channel SOA modules and various highly functional optical modules consisting of SOAs and passive PLC circuits. In this paper, we describe key issues and techniques toward achieving high-performance hybrid integrated SOA modules, in particular focusing on the basic techniqes for improving the gain and the linearity. We also report a hybrid integrated gain-clamped SOA module which we successfully developed by using these techniques.
