Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this report, we propose Pulse Neural Network with Regulator of Short-term Transmission Efficiency (PNNRSTE) in order to improve performance of Pulse Neural Network (PNN) which consists of leaky integrate-and fire neurons. In order to enable representation of linearly non-separable classification functions, we introduce a technic which combine short-term transmission efficiency regulation mechanism with PNN. We call the introduced technic PNNRSTE. Results of a fundamental experiment indicate that PNNRSTE has a potential of representing a linearly non-separable classification function. We demonstrate the advantages of PNNRSTE by applying it to a controller of an autonomous mobile robot. In this application, network parameters of PNNRSTE are optimized by Genetic Algorithms in order to enhance recognition ability of environment of the robot. Results of computation experiments reveal that the behavior of a robot using PNNRSTE is more efficient than both one using PNN and a conventional feed forward neural network which uses sigmoid function for output of the individual neurons.
