Abstract(in English) | It has been known that the visual system can detect two or more superposed surfaces at the same region in the image, simultaneously. However, many conventional models cannot deal with these multiple (or transparent) surfaces. In these transparent situations, the visual system has to represent more than one disparity and/or motion at the same region of the visual field; this is the problem of multiple surface perception. The present research analyzes the response of the binocular energy model, which is known as a biological plausible model of binocular cells, to multiple disparities and suggests how the brain encodes multiple disparities. Based on the analysis, a population-coding model for two-overlapped disparities is proposed. This model suggests the ability of the visual system on multiple disparity perception. |
