Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper investigates the optimum sub-carrier spacing for OFDM radio access in downlink considering the tradeoff relationship between the overhead loss due to the insertion of the cyclic prefix (CP) and the robustness against the inter-carrier interference (ICI) due to the phase noise and the Doppler shift. Simulation results elucidate that the optimum sub-carrier spacing is approximately 11 to 15kHz for OFDM radio access in Evolved UTRA downlink, in order to suppress the throughput degradation by less than 5% compared to the case with a sub-carrier spacing of 6.65kHz, which achieves the largest peak throughput among the investigated sub-carrier spacing in a low mobility environment as a major deployment scenario, while supporting the moving speed of up to 350km/h at a 2.6-GHz carrier frequency which corresponds to the fading maximum Doppler frequency of 843Hz in order to suppress the throughput degradation by less than 8% compared to the case with a sub-carrier spacing of 13.86kHz, which achieves the largest peak throughput among the investigated sub-carrier spacing in a high-mobility environment.
