Design of millimeter-wave microstrip array antenna with interleave arrangement to control radiation pattern in perpendicular plane of feeding line

Abstract(in English) Millimeter-wave sensor applications require antennas which can be easily designed for beams with various shapes. Microstrip comb-line array antenna is one of the attractive candidates since feeding loss is relatively low. In the design for required radiation pattern in the plane perpendicular to the feeding line, the design flexibility is low when the number of feeding line is small. We propose the way to improve the design flexibility for arbitrary radiation pattern. The radiation elements are connected at the both sides of the feeding microstrip line. They are spaced half guide wavelength and fed in phase with interleave arrangement. Excitation amplitude or phase are alternately assigned to increase the number of array sources and to improve flexibility for radiation pattern. The designs for low sidelobe or beam tilting are implemented. The antenna with two lines of 27-elements linear array is fabricated in 76.5GHz band. The effect of the proposed design is observed in the experiment.
