Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The international standard "IEC 61508 : Functional safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic (E/E/PE) Safety-Related Systems (SRSs)" came into force in 1998, and published as JIS C 0508 in Japan. This standard is constructed with two basic concepts of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Overall Safety Lifecycle of E/E/PE SRS. The probabilistic approach is adopted as one of the methodologies in order to analyze the hazardous events. The main purpose of the standard is to provide the scheme in order to keep safety for the various industries using the computers as a safety purpose. The sector standards are now under discussion in the sector such as process industry. This standard can be recognized as overall safety standard, which gives the safety requirements in the overall safety lifecycle, the functional safety management of the organizations and the competency of the personals. The functional safety certification relating to IEC 61508 was started last year in England. This paper introduces the outline of the standard and current situation of the functional safety certification.
