Folded Waveguide for Planar Antenna with Non-Grating Lobe

Abstract(in English) A double-layered folded oversized-waveguide, which consists of a 2-dimensional parabolic reflector, fed by a high permittivity LSE-NRD guide radiator in the lower layer, and a radiating slotted array fed by an oversized-wavegude in the upper layer, was designed for a millimeter-wave planar antenna. Main emphasis was placed on suppression of grating robes in the planar antenna, and thus, the radiating slots were spaced by a period of less than a free space wavelength by filling a Teflon material in the oversized-wavegude in the upper layer. Moreover, it was theoretically considered that a metal plate partition with finite thickness between the lower and upper layers was introduced in the folded oversized-waveguide since permanent magnets for circulators had to embed in the metal plate partition. Based on the theoretical consideration, the double-layered folded oversized-waveguide with the metal plate partition with finite thickness was fabricated and tested at 60GHz. The levels of the grating robes were measured to be less than 20dB compared with that of the main robe, and hence, successful grating robe suppression.
