Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper suggests a very compact waveguide directional coupler with tight coupling of 3-dB or so, which is composed of two cross H-plane rectangular waveguides having two metallic posts in the square junction and one at each port. The two posts set symmetrically along a diagonal line of the cross region mainly make for the directional properties, and one placed properly near the junction at each input/output port realizes a matched state. Actually, several couplers are successfully designed at X-band based upon this concept, and good properties are obtained. Next, a band-broadening technique for a 3-dB coupler is developed. As a result, a considerable wide bandwidth of about 28% is realized for the return loss and isolation better than 20dB, and the power-split unbalance within 0.1dB. Additionally, the design procedure is validated by em-simulations (HFSS). The present coupler is marked by a compact coplanar structure, four right-angled ports, ease to realize 3-dB coupling, and relatively broad bandwidth.
