Frequency-Dependence Measurements of Complex Permittivity of Dielectric Plates Using TM_<0m0> Modes of a Balanced-type Circular Disk Resonator Excited by Coaxial Cables

Abstract(in English) For a balanced-typed circular disk resonator excited in the center by coaxial cable lines, only TM_<0m0> modes (m=1, 2, 3...) are excited, where the degree m indicates the number of the change of the electric or magnetic field in the radial direction. Using these TM_<0m0> modes, an easy-to-treatment and new measurement method is proposed to measure the frequency dependence the complex permittivity (relative permittivity ε_m, loss tangent tanδ_n) of normal direction of a dielectric plate in microwave frequencies. In this measurement, the influences of coaxial cable excitation and edge effect of the resonator are taken into account on the basis of an exact electromagnetic field analysis. Actually, the availability of this method is verified by measuring the frequency-dependence of complex permittivity of a PTFE dielectric plate and a glass-cloth PTFE laminate plate.
