Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Infants of progressive spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) can neither speak nor move their limbs, so that they can communicate with no person by themselves. We have developed for the infants of SMA some assistant toys using a micro-controller in the first stage. When the toys were triggered by a micro-switch of very weak load, they played attractive actions with flicker of LEDs and music sounds. The SMA infants were interested in operating of the toys. Play of the toys was useful for intellectual development of SMA infants. In the second stage, we have developed a selection game of figure using a personal computer system (PC). There are two states of correct answer and un-correct answer in the PC game. When the same figure was chosen to a question figure. a picture of reward appeared in the screen of PC. Switching operations to un-correct figures were decreased after several trials of the games. The result showed the possibility that the SMA infants understood the operation of choice.
