Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Many companies have started to consider the iSCSI protocol used to build inexpensive SAN (Storage Area Network) environment, called IP-SAN, over Ethernet networks. Traditional SAN environment (FC-SAN) is built by using storage-specific interconnect hardware, fibre channel. On the other hand, IP-SAN environment is build by using inexpensive Ethernet-based hardware and the host OS TCP stack. IP-SAN has been considered to be not suitable for high-end systems due to low throughput and high CPU utilization. This paper presents a performance evaluation of the iSCSI protocol over 10-Gigabit Ethernet. We achieve over 800MB/sec read and 700MB/sec write throughput with a kernel-space benchmark application.
