Abstract(in English) | In this paper we made an investigation for reducing electromagnetic emission radiated from electronic equipment for vehicles. Based on the assumption that conducted noise currents flowing through outside wire harnesses from a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) result in common-mode radiation due to discontinuities and junctions, we investigated the effect of ground pattern design, i.e., whether or not we should divide analog grounds from digital grounds. In order to evaluate the radiated emission, we introduced a simple method in which wide-band measurement of the conducted noise currents was made. We first demonstrated, for an electronic device being actually used in vehicles, that the measured conducted noise currents have a good correlation with the radiated emission from the device being connected to wire harnesses. We found that a plane ground without separation of analog and digital grounds give less conducted noise currents and the resultant lower radiated emission. In order to explain qualitatively the finding described above, we also performed a numerical simulation using a simplified PCB for the effect of ground slits on the transmission characteristics between perpendicularly placed signal traces, and confirmed a fair agreement between the simulation and measurement. |
