Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The quality of real-time applications is significantly affected by their delay characteristics in traversing the network. Some applications have their acceptable network delay limits, in which cases, a packet experiencing delay longer than its limit before arriving at the destination would be not only worthless for the application quality but also harmful because it could make the delay of some other packets longer. In this paper, therefore, we propose the packet self-discarding scheme in which packets experiencing too much delay for the application are adaptively discarded at intermediate nodes to improve the delay characteristics of real-time application flows. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.
